I want to start this post by thanking Gnuite for making the changes to Maemo Mapper to allow this to be possible. I also want to point out that the only reason we did this is because alephito @ ITT asked me. He also helped with testing and tweaking the spanish voice…
Download and install Maemo Mapper
First of all you need to install Maemo Mapper version 2.5.2 you can get it here – > MAEMO-MAPPER
Download and install Festival
Now you need to install Festival which has Spanish voices and a flite shell script to use with maemo-mapper. I have two packages one contains only Spanish and one contains several other voices, I think US, British and Scottish and 1 female. The package containing more voices is larger.
> Festival with Spanish only < 4MB Dowload, 12MB uncompressed (8MB on flash)
OK, Now you have Maemo Mapper and Festival installed. Now we need to change the Route Download to get the directions in Spanish instead of English.
Open Maemo Mapper, Open Menu > Route > Download
Add “&tld=es” without the quotes

Now you will have Spanish text and it will use festival Spanish voice with maemo-mapper

Please review the thread on InternetTabletTalk.com for further information and other users experiences
On a side note another larger package exists also
> Festival with All Voices < 20MB Dowload, 50MB uncompressed (35MB on flash) (Defaults to American female voice)

Can you include the packages with just the female voice? Also, does festival run incredibly slow as to be virtually unusuable on your tablet? It runs very slow and takes upwards of 30 seconds from the directions being displayed to being played by the voice synth.
Hi, thanks for all the great work! I installed the multi version, and I’m trying to find a way to have my N800 speak whatever I type with a bluetooth keyboard. I tried espeak first and got an error and with this when I type in flite “hello” etc. it pauses and then goes back to the $ prompt. When I type in festival it says “not found” Did I miss something or is it not possible to do this? I’m running Diablo 43-7, thanks!
Nevermind, I figured it out! This is awesome! Thanks Penguinbait! You rock! For anyone stuck like I was, open terminal and type /home/user/festival/bin/festival
From there you can type help for usage etc.
Sweet.
